Who are we?
depa is the acronym for the Development and Environmental Professionals’ Association - an industrial organisation of employees registered under the NSW Industrial Relations Act and one of the three local government unions party to be Local Government (State) Award and other industrial instruments in the industry.
Our members are professional employees working in local government in New South Wales in a variety of jobs in the fields of environmental health, public health, building and development control and planning.
A century ago the union was known as the Health Inspectors’ Association (when health inspectors in councils had a much broader role than simply health inspection) and went through a variety of name changes - the Health Surveyors’ Association, the Health and Building Surveyors’ Association, the Environmental Health and Building Surveyors’ Association - to become the Development and Environmental Professionals Association in July 2003.
